Trump hints at closure of more Chinese consulates as China fumes
The United States and China have traded threats and criticism over the COVID-19 pandemic, Hong Kong and the South China Sea.
Now the diplomatic war between the two global powers has a new focus.
Beijing has been given 72 hours to shut down its consulate in the US city of Houston.
This is the latest in a series of actions meant to punish China, for what the Trump administration calls spying and "undiplomatic behaviour".
Until Donald Trump, ‘nobody stood up’ to China
US President Donald Trump is correct to call out China considering Beijing is openly flouting international law, according to Sky News contributor Cory Bernardi.
It comes as President Trump ordered China to shut down its consulate in Houston within 72 hours following accusations of spy operations.
Mr Bernardi said China has been active in growing cyber intrusions in the West, has militarized the South China Sea, and has contravened numerous international laws.
“They’ve done it virtually unchallenged until Donald Trump came along,” he told Sky News host Peta Credlin.
“Good on him for … saying that the Chinese cannot be part of the international community and act in contravention to so many codes.”
And Chinese officials are threatening to retaliate.

Joe Biden gets ‘leave pass’ to call Donald Trump the first racist President
Sky News host Chris Kenny says Presidential candidate Joe Biden was extreme and divisive when he labelled President Donald Trump a racist without clear and irrefutable evidence.
During an online forum, Mr Biden claimed although there have been racists who have tried to be elected president “he’s the first one who has”.
“This is incendiary, especially given the riots and violence in the US in recent weeks,” Mr Kenny said.
“Now we all know Trump can be divisive and mocking in his political attacks, and he’s often called out for it, but this shouldn’t mean Biden gets a leave pass.
“Labelling a President racist is an extreme and divisive claim, and it’s the sort of political attack that demands clear and irrefutable evidence.”
